XC Skiing with Women of Colour Remake Wellness and Fresh Air Experience

  • Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway Ottawa, ON, K1A 0K9 Canada (map)

This event is being hosted by Biatris Lasu of WoCRW. This intro to XC skiing is ideal for BIPOC (18+) who are interested in trying out cross country skiing for the first time, or for folks who still consider themselves total beginners. We will be providing the gear and the know-how so all you need to bring is your sense of adventure.

All XC Ski gear is generously being provided by Fresh Air Experience, a local shop that specializes in bike and ski gear. You can find them at www.freshairexp.com or @freshairexp on Instagram.

Val Lefebvre is a formerly certified CANSI ski instructor. She's let her certification lapse since life became busy with two kids, but she still knows what she's talking about and will be available as our instructor for the day. During this informal event, Val will walk us through everything we need to know in order to try cross country skiing.

We'll meet at Remic Rapids Park to pick up our gear at Fresh Air Experience's on trail location before learning to ski on the Kichi Sibi Trail (@kichisibiwt on Instagram).

Val will show us how to: put on our ski gear, get up from the ground if we've fallen, ski with and without poles, go up and down small hills (maybe- if we're feeling brave)

Then, we'll head off on the Kichi Sibi Trail to practice what we've learned for roughly 3 km.

The closest bus stop, #5063, is a 10 minute walk to the park.

If you require transportation to this event, please message Meg on Instagram at @adventurereport or email megk@adventurereport.ca and we will do our best to arrange transportation for you to attend.

*Because we have a limited number of spots available we are unable to offer refunds if you are unable to attend after registering. If the event is cancelled (i.e. due to weather, etc.), refunds will be issued to all participants signed up.*
