About Asian Heritage Month
May is Asian Heritage Month, the month acknowledges the long and rich history of Asian Canadians and their contributions to Canada. It also provides an opportunity to recognize the contributions and influence of Asian Canadian to the history, culture, and achievements of Canada.
Asian Heritage Month has been celebrated across Canada since the 1990s. In December 2001, the Senate officially designate May as Asian Heritage Month in Canada and in 2002, the Government signed an official declaration to designate May as Asian Heritage Month.
Addressing Anti-Asian Racism Resources
For too many Asian communities anti-Asian racism is a daily lived reality. We need to raise awareness of the challenges faced by these communities, to confront, denounce all forms of anti-Asian racism and discrimination. As a community it is our collective responsibility to step up, be allies, and stand together against xenophobia, hate fueled by misinformation and all forms of racism including anti-Asian racism. Here are some ways we can all contribute to tackling anti-Asian racism and building an even better and consciously more inclusive society where everyone is able to participate fully:
